Our Philosophy

First-generation and low-income college students, desperate job-hunters trying to teach themselves necessary skills, and... just about anyone else struggling to "make it" will have corporate propaganda pounded into their heads thousands of times per day, telling them they're "missing out" if they don't have the latest versions of Photoshop, Microsoft Office, the MacBook, and so on. Companies like Apple spend millions every year subtly implanting this feeling in all of our heads. This site is trying to push back in some small way, by providing helpful guides explaining how anyone who belongs to these categories can avoid going bankrupt by using 100% *free* and *open-source* alternatives. If the playing field among those born with money and those born without becomes a tiny bit more even, we'll have done our job.

So, click on an expensive program on the left to see how you can keep literally thousands of dollars in your pockets (and away from Apple's)!
